Viré Wine Cellars: a 70-year challenge

1928 Birth of Viré Wine Cellars. In the years that followed, the buildings were extended.

The sixties: Commercial development under the management of René Boudier.

The seventies: The Mâconnais doubled its production area, and increased from about 3,700 acres to about 8,650 acres, and Viré represented 11 to 14% of the volume produced.

The winegrowers of the Cellars refused to follow this movement of extension, choosing rather to concentrate on the specific character of their wine.

The Eighties: the Board of Directors introduced an investment programme in order to modernise the Cellars: stainless-steel tanks, harvest reception, bottling room, computerisation, and even the construction of an air-conditioned and temperature-controlled vinification buiHistorylding.History

The Cellars gradually built up a sound reputation for their seriousness and their quality: a motivated team of responsible people, high-performance means of production, wines expressing their identity...

1988: The winegrowers of Viré rallied once again to try and win their communal appellation. The Cellars provided their support both logistically and in the media.

1994: Viré Wine Cellars merged with Sennecé Wine Cellars, a few kilometres away, thus acquiring a superb site for promotion and tasting.

1997: The national INAO committee voted in favour of the Viré-Clessé communal appellation.
